Kau back from her trip

Kau Belleh is back from her West Africa trip.  Sadly internet connections were not good enough for her to send messages as she travelled around, so over the coming weeks we will post news of some of the people she met and the places she visited.

Great morning at the Cheam Charter Fair

Taking part in an event with a long tradition was fun in itself, but it was also a good opportunity to present the work of TWEP, sell raffle tickets and our fair trade and craft items.  A huge thank you to volunteers Fatima and Julie for helping on the day.  Thank you also to the people who came to talk to us, who bought items and raffle tickets, and signed up to be on our mailing list.

Ladies get swimming

Twelve ladies are a third of the way through TWEP’s 12 week swimming course.  The lessons take place at Morden Park baths and all taking part are developing their confidence in the water.

The Make a Move project will be announcing information about cycling opportunities soon, so if you are interested in learning to cycle, or know someone who is, keep in touch for further news.

Fundraising Dinner

TWEP is holding a Dinner on 16 June 2012.  Providing an opportunity to showcase the work of TWEP, it is also intended to raise funds for the charity.

The Dinner will take place at the Antoinette Hotel, The Broadway, Wimbledon,  London, SW19 1SD 6.30pm for 7pm – with Carriages at 10pm.  Dress is formal/smart.

Tickets are £25 each.  There will be a raffle and fair trade and craft items for sale.

If you want to come to the event, please book your ticket by contacting the TWEP office by phone or email.

If you cannot come, you can make a Donation.

The Trustees look forward to welcoming TWEP’s supporters and friends to what will be a great evening.

Kau off to West Africa

Kau Belleh, Chairlady of TWEP, is off to Togo and Ghana today.  During her visit she intents to meet with TWEP’s partners and to progress TWEP’s projects.

Books donated for African School

Thank you to everyone who donated books to TWEP on World Book Night.  If you have any academic or children’s books, or general novels, you can still donate them by taking them to the TWEP office in Sutton. Call the office to make arrangements.

Fairtrade and craft items for sale

The Women’s Empowerment Project has its own e-bay shop and will be posting items for sale in the coming weeks.  Here is a taster of what is to come.

The money raised through the sale of these items will support the work of TWEP.

Some of the items that will be available on e-bay or through one of TWEP’s Charity Begins at Home events.

Certificates of Attendance

At a Ceremony held on 19 April 2012, six of the eleven students who took part in the Community Empowerment Training,  received their Certificates of Attendance from The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton, Councillor Gerry Jerome.

The Mayor greeted the students in The Mayor’s Parlour.  Kau Belleh, Chairlady of TWEP, briefly described the project and Cllr Jerome praised the students for their commitment to the project.

The event was attended by representatives from partner organisations, Sutton Council for Voluntary Services, Sutton Council, Sutton Racial Equalities Council and Coman Communications.

We are now on e-bay

The Women’s Empowerment Project has set up an e-bay shop.  You can sell something and donate between 10% and 100% to TWEP.  In the coming weeks TWEP will  be putting up its own products for sale from our range of fairtrade and craft items.
