TWEP seeks funding for new initiative

Posted by Coman Communications on September 17, 2011

The Women’s Empowerment Project  (TWEP) is currently seeking funding in order to establish Shalom House, a refuge for sex workers in Ghana.

“We are also looking for proposals to undertake further research in Ghana to support this project”, said Kau Belleh, Chairlady of TWEP.

The Shalom House project is addressing a key issue for young women, aged between 13 and 23, in Ghana.  Faced with few opportunities, many resort to prostitution to provide the economic support they need for themselves and their families.  The project will provide a safe place to live, educational support and an opportunity to learn a skill that will provide a route into legitimate secure employment.

TWEP is keen to hear from potential partners, volunteers and funders who work in West African and the UK.   For further information on the project or to registered an interest in taking part, contact the organisation.
